Literary Innovations: A Juried National Exhibition Inspired by William Faulkner and Gabriel García Márquez
October 5 - November 29Free
The Gallery at Southeast Missouri State University’s Catapult Creative House will host “Literary Innovations: A Juried National Exhibition Inspired by William Faulkner and Gabriel García Márquez” from Oct. 5 through Nov. 29.
An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 5 from 5-9 p.m. in the gallery.
The exhibition focuses on the prolific and exciting writings of authors William Faulkner and Gabriel García Márquez, who are both closely identified with literary modernism and known for creating densely woven plots. Faulkner is known for experimental techniques, including the use of multiple narrators, conflicting perspectives and a fluid concept of time. Márquez, on the other hand, inserted irony and magical realism into his work, incorporating fantastic elements into ordinary situations.
During the opening reception Oct. 5, visitors are welcome to tour the entire Catapult facilities including the Southeast Missouri State University Department of Art students’ studios and current solo exhibition by junior Erin Gericke on the second floor. In addition, there will be live printing in the letter press studio.
