‘Information Overload’ Catapult Exhibit
August 20, 2019 - September 6, 2019Free
“Information Overload” is the first featured Student Artist of the Month exhibit at Southeast Missouri State University’s Catapult Creative House.
The exhibition, currently on display on the second floor of Catapult, features the work of Southeast artist Ethan Mirgeaux. The exhibition will remain on display with a closing reception scheduled for 5-9 p.m. Sept. 6. Catapult Creative House is located at 612 Broadway in downtown Cape Girardeau.
Mirgeaux, of Scott City, Missouri, is a senior at Southeast pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in digital arts. His exhibition, “Information Overload,” deals with the pressures of a world flooded with information. In the modern world, people are constantly bombarded with information from many different media outlets — phones, computers, television, advertisements and more. In this exhibition, Mirgeaux depicts this overload of information in an abstract way using shapes and animation. The use of motion in his art is a way of showing the rapid and ever-changing themes of the modern world.
As a part of a program to promote community-based and integrated art making, a student artist is chosen each month to exhibit his or her work at Catapult Creative House’s Student Gallery. These exhibitions will showcase a range of work from individual artists that highlights their personal and professional artistic explorations as a part of the southeast Missouri art community. These artists explore the physicality of the human condition, its relationship to nature and the role of art in contemporary society. In addition to the exhibition, attendees are welcome to tour the studio spaces, view ongoing projects and engage with the artists.
