Ukrainian Art of Egg Decorating Workshops at Crisp Museum

March 22 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Event Navigation

Two workshops on Pysanky, the Ukrainian art of egg decorating, are being offered March 21 and 22 in the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.

The workshops, led by artist and teacher Barbara Duncan, are planned for 1-4 p.m. both days in the Crisp Museum classroom.

Participants will learn the rich history of legends, superstition, folklore and symbolism behind Pysanky. Duncan will demonstrate surface design and handling techniques that participants will practice to create their own completed Pysanky egg.

The name Pysanky comes from the verb “to write,” as you use a stylus called a kistka to write with wax on the egg shell.

Registration is required for this free public event by calling (573) 651-2260. Supplies are provided. Seating is limited in the museum’s classroom.

The Crisp Museum is located in the Cultural Arts Center at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus, located at 518 S. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau, Mo. For more information, call (573) 651-2260 or email museum@semo.edu.
